Fiona Crossling Executive Director, Share the Warmth
Something I can't live without: My Faith Advice I give to my children: Know what you love, and go for it! How I keep it together: Swimming laps every week is a must to gather my thoughts
Fiona Crossling is a passionate giver, a mother of 2, and the Executive Director of Share the Warmth, a community group that works to fight hunger and poverty in Montreal. Her visionary approach to shaping the future of the organization she leads within the community, combined with her deep sense of caring for the people whose lives she touches, make her a person of impact, a person of change. She does not shy away from asking tough questions, from others or from herself. A graduate of McGill (BComm) and HEC (MBA), with leadership experience in the business, Fiona brings innovative thinking to the non-for-profit space in Montreal. I met Fiona via a former classmate, Sally Richmond, Executive Director of Logifem. From our first meeting, I knew that I wanted to work with Fiona and Share the Warmth because the positive energy of the organization was channeling through Fiona herself. As I was telling her what we can do with Salesforce at Share the Warmth, she asked the team to come in, listen in, and ask questions. It was obvious that she was driven by her team and by their mission, and, despite the challenges non-profits face on daily basis, was able to step back from the “nuts and bolts” of a system, and able to see “the big picture”. While working together, I have gotten to know Fiona better, and I continue to be impressed by her strong leadership, her critical innovative thinking, and above all, her big heart.
As demand for community support from organizations like Share the Warmth continues to grow, while government funding faces cutbacks, it is more important than ever for a non-profit to think differently in order to stretch an already tight budget. “Shifting the organization from charity to development”, says Fiona, is something she is very proud of, and she sees Share the Warmth as the place where the community comes together. Social economy, the focus on creating jobs, nurturing future generations in sustainable ways, and collaborating with other organizations - this is Fiona’s vision, and she works tirelessly to make it a reality.
It is leaders like Fiona - with vision, will, and decisiveness - who make a real difference and positively impact the more vulnerable members of the community, creating a better world for all involved.
